When Sister Gretchen Kunz first arrived in Brazos Valley, Saint Joseph Hospital was just a small hospital. 52 years after she came on the scene, through the soft spoken Sister's guidance, input, prayers and planning, Bryan/College Station has become a medical hub.

Sister Gretchen says people often ask her, "People say to me sometimes, what was your most important project and I always say my most important project was developing the team. We've all got a baton, we don't finish our work, but what we do is put it it in good hands for the future and the continued run. Our goal was to always move forward and upward."

She's the visionary whose prayer and hard work has made St. Joseph hospital what it is today, but she believes the work at the hospital will never be finished and that there's no end to the mission or the ministry.

"We care for the people. The people come first," says Sister Gretchen.

And while she knows it was the Lord who brought her here, she also knows the people of the Brazos Valley are the ones who made it impossible for her to stick to her original plan and is reminded of something she once said.

"You said to everybody, I'm only gonna be here three years, I fell in love with the people," says Sister Gretchen.

Not only did the people of the Brazos Valley find their way into Sister Gretchen's heart, you could say the Spirit of Aggieland found its way into her blood.

Sister Gretchen proudly says, "I'm and Aggie! I pray for them to really do well throughout the whole season."

And as long as Sr. Gretchen is praying she says, "There's Ohio Station too and Notre Dame. I always root for them for the fourth quarter and the first three quarters, I root for the Aggies."

As you can see, Sr. Gretchen loves the community that adopted and welcomed her home more than 50 years ago. That's why throughout the years, she's worked to make sure the hospital's been equipped with state of the art, life-saving equipment.

"We believe that all the people are very important, all the people are Good's people. And we care for them and wish you and them peace," says Sister Gretchen.

Clearly there's no stopping Sister Gretchen and as the hospital continues to grow, you can bet, she'll be there cheering on her team and even help them plan and organize future fund raisers. Sister Gretchen says when it comes to raising money, every penny counts and every dollar is a hundred pennies and together they all go to support the ministry and work for the Lord and all his people.
