Through her job with College Station Park's and Recreation, Marci Rodgers is able to plan and coordinate activities specifically designed for seniors. Even though she works hard, she loves her job, and considers all those in her senior groups, her friends.
"My husband and I both moved here in 1979 from Texas Tech and this was an area that just offered great potential," says Rodgers.
For most Aggies, it's hard to believe that a Red Raider from Texas Tech would call Aggieland an area that offered great potential, but Marci Rodgers also calls College Station home and through her job with College Station's Parks and Recreation Department, she's making it a special place for seniors.
"I plan things that I think would be fun and that I enjoy doing and everybody seems to be enjoying it," says Rodgers.
With events like this fashion show and luncheon, what's not to enjoy? Marci's not only bringing the community's senior population together, she's also learning that College Station's more mature residents are a thriving and fun-loving group.
Rodgers says, "To me, working with them, they're active, they're knowledgeable, they're interested in learning new things. To me, College Station really has a great opportunity here to work with senior adults. This area for retirees to move back, former Aggies to move here, I think is great for our community."
For more than ten years, Marci's been dedicated to making her job be more than just a job, she's opened her heart and embraced an entire community that's given her more than she ever thought possible.
Rodgers says, "This is my home, I love it and I feel College Station is just a part of me."
And in case you're wondering who this Texas Tech grad roots for during football season, Marci says she and her husband are ten and one Aggies because they cheer for Texas A&M every time, except when they play Texas Tech.
