College Station Utilities has received the American Public Power Association’s Electric Utility Safety Award for safe operating practices in 2011. The award was announced Tuesday at the APPA’s Engineering & Operations Technical Conference in Cleveland, Ohio.
More than 275 utilities entered the annual contest. Entrants were placed in categories based on total worker hours and were judged for the most incident-free records. The incidence rate is based on worker hours and the number of work-related injuries or illnesses.
“A lot of work goes into building a strong safety record,” said David Massey, CSU’s Director of Electric Utilities. “We’re proud to receive this prestigious award and will continue to improve our safety practices while providing reliable service to our community.”
APPA represents more than 2,000 nonprofit, community and state-owned electric utilities.
