A new ranking in the just published A Review of Fifty Public University Honors Programs puts the Texas A&M University Honors Program in the top spot in the category of “Schools with Engineering Focus.”
According to the Public University Honors website, the 289-page book details honors curriculum, achievements, graduation rates and benefits that students might expect from the reviewed programs. The editor notes that the programs in the engineering category offer a wide range of opportunity to students in all academic majors and have admissions criteria that would be comparable to another category, “SAT Minimum 1300-1400.”
The announcement of the publication of the book was made on the Public University Honors website, which provides evaluation and discussion of public university honors programs and public honors colleges.
Sumana Datta, executive director of the University Honors Programs, says the Honors and Undergraduate Research is “thrilled” that the program has received top ranking for honors programs at “Schools with an Engineering Focus.” Datta adds that the ranking reflects the “thoughtful changes and improvements recently implemented in the program.”
“More importantly, it reflects the extraordinary dedication, scholarly achievements and initiative of the faculty who teach the courses and mentor students, the selfless service of our student peer-leaders who pass on the benefits of their hard-earned knowledge and experience, the insight of the staff all over campus who guide the students, the vision of the administrators who support honors and especially the maturity, focus and hunger to learn that our best students bring to University Honors,” she adds.
According to the announcement, the book is intended to be used as a guidebook for prospective college students. The editor reviewed honors programs at all public universities ranked in the top 75 by the most recent U.S. News Best American Colleges report as well as those public universities that are members of the Association of American Universities.
The guidebook will not only provide rankings by category performance but will also provide a number of different ways to compare the honors programs reviewed including by perception, overall excellence, excellence impact and honors only.
The book is available in hardcover, paperback, Kindle, Kindle for Mac and Nook on Amazon.com and as a free download for PC-Kindle.
