John Martin, a Life Scout of Boy Scout Troop 1300 spent Wednesday evening collecting donations for the victims of last week's West Fertilizer Plant explosion as a service project to count towards his Eagle rank.
Martin held a donation drive looking for construction materials, school supplies, and items for the elderly which were requested by emergency coordinators.
The donations were picked up in the Kroger Parking Lot on Southwest Parkway in College Station, and troop leaders tell us the supplies will be delivered to West by the scouts on Thursday.
The explosion in West a week ago killed at least 15 people and injured more than two hundred others. Buildings were leveled, and city officials say the town may not have its infrastructure back up and running to its normal capacity for as many as three weeks.
