A brand new, mortgage free home is being constructed for a local disabled veteran, courtesy of Operation Finally Home.
Thirty-year-old Sergeant Monte Bernardo saw the site his new home for the first time last Saturday. Bernardo was given a personal tour of the site by actor and motivational speaker J-R Martinez, who is also a disabled veteran.
Last November, Governor Rick Perry announced during halftime of an Aggie game that Bernardo would be given the home. He became an amputee after losing both legs and his left hand when an IED exploded during his second tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Bernardo's new home will be completed sometime this fall.
