COLLEGE STATION Texas A&M University comes in at 17 on Kiplinger's Top 100 "Best Values" ranking of public universities.
The university sent out a release Monday touting the top 20 ranking. A&M is the highest ranked public university in the state. The University of Texas at Austin comes in second at 21.
The widely circulated personal finance magazine has just released its 2014 rankings, which are based on a combination of academic quality and affordability, note the publication’s editors.
Texas A&M has consistently advanced on Kiplinger’s annual “best values” public college list since the magazine started its rankings in 1998. It placed 18th last year, 21st the prior year and 23rd and 25th, respectively, previously. The annual list of 100 schools is again headed by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
According to the university release, Texas A&M has also fared well in other recent rankings by national publications. It is the only public university in Texas to rank among the top 50 national universities in the “Great Schools, Great Prices” category of the 2014 ratings by U.S. News & World Report – and it maintained its second-place ranking overall in that key assessment of national public institutions. Washington Monthly ranked Texas A&M second among all U.S. universities—public or private—in its latest rankings, which are based in large part on universities’ contributions to the public interest through endeavors such as service programs and research that drives economic growth. Texas A&M also was listed as a “best buy” in the 2014 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges, a publication created by former New York Times higher education editor Edward B. Fiske.
