COLLEGE STATION, Texas Two days and counting before the Texas A&M-Mississippi State game and then the start of big changes for Kyle Field.
After the game on Saturday, pieces of the stadium will start being removed.
News 3 looks at what's going to happen first.
One of the most storied stadiums in college football is about to change forever.
The lines are being drawn for A&M's final home game of the season against Mississippi State.
But construction crews are working away on the east side of the stadium for the start of a $450 million renovation.
"They'll be in here Monday knocking that whole lower deck down all the way down to the yellow. Everything in the upper two decks will stay," said Leo Goertz, the Athletic Field Maintenance Manager for Texas A&M.
He says the video board will also be one of the first things to go.
"It's just like a computer, it's gotten outdated," said Goertz.
"Obviously the bleachers will go away, the scoreboard will go away, Netum Steed will go away, so there'll be a lot of demolition on the south end zone," said Goertz.
Around 8 o'clock after the game Saturday night the grass at Kyle Field will begin being harvested and going away too. Aggie fans have already purchased every single piece with squares going for $20 and pallets $400.
"There'll be a lot of Kyle Field around the state," said Goertz.
Construction fencing goes up around 6 A.M. Sunday and the east side will be the new home for the press box two years from now. They will also sink the field and shift it for better sight lines.
"It's going to be a whole different atmosphere in here with the enclosed south end zone and an extra 20,000 Aggie fans in here, so I think it'll be a great experience," said Goertz.
A bold plan soon to roll into high gear.
This first phase includes changes to the east side and student section, as well as building a new south end zone seating section, essentially enclosing the stadium.
Phase two after next season will include tearing down the west side and rebuilding it.
Fans who have purchased pieces of the stadium's grass can pick up their order on the west side of Kyle Field between 9 A.M. and noon Sunday.
