New Plans to Control A&M Game Day Traffic Introduced at Bryan Council Meeting

COLLEGE STATION We're less than three months away from the start of Texas Aggie football. The Kyle Field expansion will see crowds grow to more than 106-thousand people. To better manage the influx of traffic in and around the stadium, the Texas A&M Transportation Institute came up with a plan that was introduced Tuesday afternoon to Bryan City Council members.

Tim Lomax, with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, says the university will see a 25 to 30 percent increase in crowd capacity. He conducted a traffic study which analyzed the influx of traffic and came up with ways to reduce the congestion in Bryan- College Station. "We're not going to eliminate it. You're not going to be able to drive from the stadium to your house 30 minutes after the football game, " Lomax says.

The plans include changing traffic and shuttle bus routes, better timing of traffic signals, safer pedestrian paths, and more efficient pre-pay parking options. All this information will be available on the new smartphone app which rolls out two weeks before the start of the season in August. The application contains real-time traffic, parking, and shuttle information. Lomax says, "We can keep people safe and get them to their vehicle or to the shuttle bus and away from the stadium faster than before."

The first Aggie home game will be September 6th against Lamar University.
