Aggies Go From Tourney Winners to Tourney Hosts

Posted: Mon 6:44 PM, Mar 11, 2013

Fresh off a Southeastern Conference tournament title, Texas A&M's women's basketball team is set to host some of March's madness again.

Tickets are still available for the first and second round of the NCAA tournament. The Aggies and three other teams will face off Saturday, March 23 at Reed Arena. The winners of those two games will play Monday, March 25 back at Reed.

It's the second straight year A&M will host first and second round NCAA action. For the 2012 edition, the Aggies drew the second biggest crowds of the first round. Sixteen cities host first round games.

"We need the Aggies to come out and buy those tickets," Head Coach Gary Blair said on First News at Four Monday. "If we want to finish second again or first, we need at least 6,000 or 7,000 fans there, and perhaps we'll have the tournament here again in two years."

The schedule for next year's games are already set, and College Station will not host.

Tickets for the games are available throughAggieAthletics.com.

March 23's games are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., with the Aggies all-but-assuredly playing in the 3:00 p.m game, according to the athletics department. The second round game on March 25 will tip off at 8:30 p.m.

Games will also be televised on ESPN2.

A&M defeated Kentucky Sunday to win the SEC tournament championship. It's the first team title for the Aggies in their new conference.
