All Bryan School Zones to Prohibit Cell Phone Use by Drivers

Drivers be warned: if you're in Bryan and you use a cell phone in a school zone, you face a fine.

According to Bryan Police, by the start of the new school year Monday, all school zones will have signage up noting a $200 fine possible if you use a wireless communication device while driving. The exceptions are if the vehicle is stopped or if the device is hands-free.

While the state law prohibiting cell phone use in school zones went into effect in September 2009, it is only enforceable if signage is up in the zone noting the law.

College Station school zones have had signage up at all schools since near the beginning of the law's enforcement, according to CSPD.

Bryan PD notes they have spent the last few years working to educate the public about the dangers of cell phone use while behind the wheel.
