Recently, the College Station Police Department has received numerous calls regarding door-to-door solicitors. The majority of these calls have been related to an out of state alarm company attempting to sell their alarm services. Some of the solicitors are claiming to have a “state permit” and they are telling residents that the state permit replaces the City of College Station permit. This information is incorrect. City Ordinance requires that all solicitors and handbill distributors have a permit to do business in the City of College Station.
If you have contact with a solicitor, ask to see their City of College Station permit. If they refuse to show you a permit or if they are overly aggressive, please contact the police department. It is helpful if you can provide a description of the solicitor (including clothing), direction of travel and a license plate if they are in a vehicle.
