Local Girls Honored for 'Books and a Blanket' Program

The College Station girls who created, "Books and a Blanket" recently won a national contest that will help them expand their efforts.

Harper and Maggie Cunningham started the program in 2012. Their goal was to collect crates of books and blankets for low-income students in local schools.

KBTX Media and CW8 Aggieland partner with them on this mission each holiday season.

Family Fun Magazine hosted its ninth annual National Volunteers Contest and the girls were grand-prize winners. Their family's story was featured in the June/July issue of the magazine and they received $5,000.

The girls say that money will be used to expand their efforts to Navasota, Somerville and Hearne.

They are still taking donations. You can follow "Books and a Blanket" on Facebook.
