Bryan's interim fire chief will now take on the role full time.
Randy McGregor has been named to replace Mike Donoho, who had served as chief since 2002. McGregor has been the interim chief since January, and has served in the department since 1983.
"We reviewed a high-quality group of candidates for this position," Interim City Manager Kean Register said in a statement. "Randy’s experience and knowledge of the Bryan Fire Department made him the best choice."
The City of Bryan notes it reviewed applications from 40 candidates across the country before choosing McGregor, who has also been a part of Texas Task Force 1 and the Brazos Valley Search and Rescue unit. He also teaches at the fire training school at Texas A&M and at Blinn's Fire Science Program.
The Bryan Fire Department has 114 employees.
