I DON'T BELIEVE THE DUST WILL REALLY SETTLE AFTER WHAT WE EXPERIENCED A LITTLE OVER A WEEK AGO, YOU JUST SOMEHOW FIND A WAY TO MOVE ON AND FIND THE GOOD IN EVERY SITUATION.
LIKE MANY OF YOU I WATCHED EVERY MOMENT OF THE BRIAN BACHMANN SERVICE AT REED AND THOUGHT, IF NOTHING ELSE, BRIAN PROBABLY DIDN'T LIKE ALL THE TALK ABOUT HIM. IT NEVER WAS ABOUT HIM, AS SO MANY REPEATED THOSE GOOD THINGS OVER AND OVER. MAYBE THE TAKEAWAY IS…THAT WE SHOULD BE LITTLE NICER TO EACH OTHER - WHILE WE ARE LIVING AND BREATHING - WE PROBABLY NEED TO HEAR A FEW KIND WORDS FROM TIME TO TIME. FROM WHAT I HEARD OF CHRISTOPHER NORTHCLIFFE, HE TOO WAS AN UNASSUMING GUY, JUST NICE, CARING FOR PEOPLE.
KBTX FOUND OURSELVES IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS SITUATION, FOR QUITE A LONG TIME THE ONLY TELEVISION STATION ANYWHERE CLOSE TO AUTHORITIES, ON THE STREET AS GUNFIRE CONTINUED.
IT'S BITTERSWEET TO HEAR NOTES OF THANKS FROM PEOPLE AT A TIME LIKE THIS. PERHAPS MOST SPECIAL WERE NOTES FROM THOSE CLOSELY ASSOCIATED WITH THE EVENT. THE SHOOTER'S STEP-FATHER SENT CLAY FALLS A HEART-WARMING MESSAGE; AND THIS CAME IN FROM BOB - A MEMBER OF LAW ENFORCEMENT:
"I first want to thank you for your coverage and respect for the last week. Your coverage was accurate, timely, and most of all respectful. I was at the hospital and was mugged by out of town media when I left. Again at the viewing again was mugged. Finally at the funeral inside Reed an Austin station wanted "just a few comments". I did not get the opportunity to see your production of the service as I was in the arena, but what I saw on the 10 PM broadcast was wonderful. Rhonda Seaton commented that after the service that she felt she was out of tears; I felt the same way, until we saw your report. It hit all the right parts and emotions that were expressed and the tears started all over but in a good way.
Mike, Just a quick note to say Thank You for the coverage of the shooting so far. From live to updates to follow-up and feature stories, your staff is providing a great service and perspective. Coverage on-air, on web and social media is exceptional.
JERRI HIATT SENT A SHORT NOTE ACCOMPANYING A PICTURE. HER NOTE SUMMED IT UP:
"The "Best of the Best" of the Brazos Valley is the PEOPLE of the Brazos Valley."
HR WROTE IN:
"First class job today. Nice wrap up by Fulhart after the service. Just all first class."
AND FROM OUR FRIENDS IN HOUSTON MEDIA AND BEYOND - ALL SAID VIRTUALLY THE SAME, BUT THIS ONE SPOKE TO THIS CULTURE:
"The KBTX group was amazing today. We had information 10-minutes before anyone else thanks to your help. Please pass along our appreciation to all involved. They are to be applauded for their professionalism and composure during a breaking news event."
THIS ISN'T ABOUT WHAT WE DID RIGHT OR TRIED TO DO BETTER. IT IS ABOUT OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THIS COMMUNITY. WE ALL HAVE A STAKE IN WHAT HAPPENS HERE. AND IT SEEMS WHEN WE ARE CHALLENGED, WE ALL RISE TO ANOTHER LEVEL.
A PERSONAL THANK YOU TO THIS INCREDIBLE STAFF. FROM BEING THERE AT THE START, THROUGH TO THE FINISH WHEN WE SAID GOODBYE TO TWO INCREDIBLE PEOPLE THIS PAST SATURDAY, WHEN OVER 20 STAFF MEMBERS, A THIRD OF OUR WORK FORCE WAS ALONG THE PROCESSION ROUTE, REED, IN THE AIR, ON-LINE - AND ON-THE AIR IN STUDIO.
TO UNDERSTAND WHAT LIVING HERE AND WORKING HERE REALLY MEANS, YOU REALLY HAVE TO MAKE A LIFE HERE, 7-DAYS A WEEK, OR YOU MIGHT JUST MISS ONE OF THE GREATEST EXAMPLES OF WHAT MAKES THIS COMMUNITY ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO TRULY -LIVE- ON EARTH.
SATURDAY WAS ONE OF THOSE DAYS - A DAY BRIAN BACHMANN AND CHRISTOPHER NORTHCLIFFE WOULD BE VERY PROUD OF. KBTX WAS HONORED JUST TO DO WHAT WE ARE CALLED TO DO - BRING YOU PICTURES AND IMAGES THAT TELL THE STORIES OF LIFE. EVERY. DAY.
BE IN TOUCH ANYTIME, YOUR OPINION ALWAYS MATTERS TO THIS FAMILY - AT KBTX NEWS 3.
