Every year on this very day, I'm reminded of how blessed we are to live in a community that takes care of its own...actually, in a region that cares. Yesterday, you showed up in record numbers to contribute to the Food for Families Food Drive. It takes more each year, because the need grows as the area grows. Obviously, there are too many businesses and organizations to mention, all area schools participate, the school districts and entities like BTU and Mid-South...the list goes on. Humbly, the family of KBTX News 3 thanks you.

And a note from the KBTX Department Head meeting Monday. We always ask, "is everything good to go with the food drive?" Have you ever been in a situation where you think you're forgetting something? Fact is, the same people have helped organize this year after year, and that means a stronger event. We don't worry because for many years, Mandy Riske has coordinated that event. Mandy, we thank you for all you do.

This past weekend was challenging with freezing roadways, and as is the case, we get a little careless in posting information on-line.

RH sent this note:

'The following text is currently posted on your KBTX website this evening. Does anyone on your staff of writers ever proof the copy before it is posted? Misspelling is almost unforgiving; however, bad English is the epitome of poor writing. To you and the entire KBTX staff, a Very Merry Christmas.'

I won't read the text of the message, but it was bad. RH is right, and nothing irritates me more than jeopardizing our credibility with something simple to accomplish: post a story or information error-free with correct spelling and punctuation! This, I'm convinced, will always be a work in progress.

Speaking of the bad roads - a nice e-mail from P-A to Kailey Franz and the weather team:

'Hi Kailey, We took your advice last night while traveling long distances. We had to go to Ft. Hood for business in the afternoon and it was ok but returning home to College Station at 9pm at night was the problem. Your weather team said check out DriveTexas.org. We did and it helped us plan our trip safely. We saw so many roller over accidents do to speed and black ice. The safety of my family comes first so we hear you guys and act upon your advice. Thank You Team 3.'

'I was very disappointed that your station did not carry the second CBS game this afternoon between the Broncos and the Titans. Your station opted to show some ski event of some kind that I find it hard to believe someone locally might really be interested in. I would just go to the sports bar, and watch it there; however, I am in the hospital. It would've been a great comfort to watch the game here. There are a lot of people locally who like to watch the Broncos because of Von Miller, former Aggie who is a star on the team.'

LK has a point. We indeed had an option on the 2nd game but instead chose Miami and Pittsburgh because of the Tannehill-Sherman connection to Aggieland. Sometimes we can choose two games, sometime only one, as was the case this past weekend. L-K and I had a great exchange in e-mail, this person seems to be doing better, and we will think a bit more when making these choices.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and again, thank you for helping make the annual Food For Families Food Drive an even bigger success in 2013.
