KBTX, LIKE SO MANY MEDIA OUTLETS, SET CREWS TO WEST TO COVER THE TRAGIC EXPLOSION, LENDING HELP TO OUR SISTER STATION IN WACO AND PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES AND COLLEAGUES.
ALAN EXPRESSED WHAT I HAD THOUGHT BEFORE, AND NEVER ADDRESSED.
Mike, I’m pretty disappointed in the coverage of the West explosion story. I expect more from the media than this. I’m tired of hearing y’all asking about how the people feel about what happened. What are the people’s emotions like. How do you think they feel? Horrible. We as the public don’t need you trying to sensationalize the problem. Produce facts, a human interest story if there’s one but get off the drama train. It’s unbecoming.
ALAN – I AGREE. IF JOURNALISM IS TO RE-CLAIM ITS STAKE AS THE RESPECTED, ADMIRED AND OFTEN REVERED VOCATION IT ONCE ENJOYED, WE MUST CHANGE OUR WAYS, FIND NEW COMPELLING WAYS TO TELL STORIES. I CAN ASSURE YOU, WE WILL NEVER LOOK TO SENSATIONALIZE, AND IF THERE IS A HINT OF THAT, IT IS ALWAYS ADDRESSED. AND FOR ME, I’M WITH YOU. I DON’T GET ON THAT DRAMA TRAIN. IT ROLLS INTO THE DEPOT NOW AND THEN, BUT – I SEND IT ON ITS WAY AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.
LAST WEEK, KBTX CHOSE TO AIR THE MEMORIAL SERVICE FROM THE FERRELL CENTER IN WACO. YOU’D BE SURPRISED AT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO EXPRESSED DISAPPOINTMENT, SAYING WE WERE DOING IT ONLY BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT WAS THERE AND, IT FIT OUR “LIBERAL AGENDA.” THOSE COMMENTS ARE LUDICROUS AND WON’T BE SHARED. BESIDES THE HURT WE ALL FELT FOR PEOPLE IN A SMALL TOWN, MANY OF US HAD CONNECTIONS IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER TO THAT COMMUNITY. IN HIGH SCHOOL, I PLAYED AGAINST THE WEST TROJANS, BARTOSH, SYKORA, SNOKHOUSE, ALL NAMES ON THE TEAM, NOW SOME – HAVE GIVEN THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE.
NOT MANY DON’T KNOW ABOUT THE CZECH STOP OR WEST FEST – TOWNS LIKE THAT MAKE UP THE FABRIC OF AMERICA, AND WE SEEM TO HURT A LITTLE DEEPER WHEN COMMUNITIES LIKE THAT ARE SO DEVESTATED. TO PUT THIS INTO PERSPECTIVE, 15 LIVES WERE LOST IN A TOWN OF 3000. THAT WOULD BE LIKE NEARLY 1000 PEOPLE LOSING THEIR LIVES HERE.
I wanted to let you know how much it meant to me that your station had the Memorial Service live from Waco today. I had to make a tough decision of whether to attend the services of my fallen Brothers or stay in my home town for a meeting to support my Department this evening against opponents for the upcoming Emergency Service District election. Your coverage was great and was just like being there in person.
AS YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED, BOB FRENCH IS BACK WITH THE KBTX FAMILY, ON-AIR DURING NEWS 3 AT NOON. IN A LITTLE OVER A WEEK, BOB WILL RETURN TO HIS FAMILIAR SLOT AT 6PM AND 10PM EACH EVENING. IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE FACEBOOK COMMENTS ABOUT BOB, OR IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO LEAVE ONE, YOU CAN DO SO ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE UNDER KBTX MEDIA. IT’S BEEN QUITE THE RESPONSE SINCE BOB RETURNED, AND HE THANKS YOU – AND SO DO WE. AND WE THANK RICH JOHNSON AS HIS TIME STARTS TO WIND DOWN WITH KBTX. THIS WEATHER CHANNEL VETERAN HAS MADE AN IMPACT ON OUR METEOROLOGISTS AND ON KBTX SINCE FILLING IN DURING THIS TIME. WE ARE VERY APPRECIATIVE FOR ALL HE HAS DONE.
BE IN TOUCH ANYTIME, WE’RE ALWAYS LISTENING, AND WE CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK. IT ALWAYS MATTERS TO KBTX NEWS 3.
