From time to time we get e-mails about matters requesting that KBTX somehow get involved. It could be investigating a business that has done someone wrong, a pot hole on a road or - well, any number of things, some of which would make great lyrics for a country song. Now - I'm not one to belittle anyone's concerns. I don't know the full story, don't know what's behind it, nor do I know what kind of battle some may be fighting…it isn't mine to judge. You decide on this one.
"The extreme prejudice at which the media, law enforcement, politicians profile the people practicing the sport of cockfighting is shameful for a Country which is supposed to be an example, and the leader of the Free World! Where in American society do you have one group like the Humane Society of the United States running a standing offer of a $5,000 reward nationwide against a minority group for the arrest and conviction of any person involved in cockfighting! Each time a cockfight bust occurs the immediate media frenzy occurs as the shock value of the accusation of every social ill and animal cruelty occurring at every cockfight never gets old! Yet we all know that the burden of proof lies on the shoulders of the accuser."
I feel like the beginning of summer break might be a good time to have a Throwback Thursday. Let's go back to 1983. It was the year KBTX moved our transmitter from our E. 29th location to Carlos, and the new tall tower. This is the news open for Channel 3 News. At one time the station used the theme to the Electric Horseman. You will see some faces familiar to those who have been around a while.
Jeff Braun has his own consulting firm, Jeff McShan is with the Harris County DA's office after serving as Sr. Reporter for KHOU-Houston, and Troy Kimmel is with the University of Texas at Austin and still provides radio weather for a number of outlets. All three were reunited on KBTX for our 50th Anniversary a few years back and anchored the 6:00 news once again. We hope to have them back in the near future.
Always good to look back at the history of this partnership: the Brazos Valley and your family here at KBTX News 3. Be in touch anytime.
