The Wright Response - November 1, 2012

ITS BEEN A LITTLE OVER A WEEK THAT OUR SIGNAL WITH DIRECTV HAS BEEN UNRELIABLE. WHILE I'M AMAZED AT PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST DOWNRIGHT RUDE TO KBTX, ASSUMING ALL PROBLEMS ORIGINATE HERE, I CAN UNDERSTAND THEIR FRUSTRATION. BUT NO PLACE IS MORE FRUSTRATED THAN KBTX.

PLEASE KNOW THAT TECHNICAL SUPPORT FROM AT&T -- THE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR SIGNAL DELIVERY -- IS ON TOP OF THIS SITUATION. KBTX INVESTED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN FIBER INSTALLATION TO THE DIRECT AND DISH NETWORK HEAD ENDS IN WACO MANY MONTHS AGO. OUR SIGNAL IS LEAVING THE KBTX BUILDING AND MAKING IT TO THE FIRST STOP IN WACO. THERE IS WHERE WE'VE ISOLATED THE PROBLEM.

THE BLACKOUTS ON DIRECT OCCUR DURING THE EVENING HOURS, AND THE TROUBLE-SHOOTING IS NARROWING IN ON THE CAUSE. THERE IS, HOWEVER, A VERY SIMPLE FIX FOR ALL OF THIS THAT INVOLVES INSTALLATION OF AN ANTENNA YOU REALLY CAN'T SEE - ATTACHING IT TO YOUR DIRECTV BOX. DIRECT HAS A LOCAL REPRESENTATIVE THAT IS VERY HELPFUL -THAT MEANS YOUR SIGNAL FOR KBTX AND CW-8 WILL COME STRAIGHT FROM OUR TRANSMITTER, AND YOU DON'T HAVE THESE ISSUES.

I'LL STOP THERE, LEST I GET MY HAND SLAPPED A BIT - BUT WE EXPECT A MAJOR INVESTMENT TO DELIVER THE KBTX SIGNAL RELIABLY. KBTX IS THE ONLY TV STATION IN THE WACO-TEMPLE-BRYAN MARKET THAT HAS TO RUN FIBER FROM HERE TO THERE, BUT KNOW THAT THOSE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE ARE CLOSE TO A FIX FOR THIS ISSUE. THERE IS MUCH MORE TO THE STORY. SOMETIMES I AMAZE MYSELF WITH THE AMOUNT OF RESTRAINT I'VE DEVELOPED.

WE CONTINUE TO THANK OUR FRIENDS AT SUDDENLINK FOR INVESTING IN BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION AND FOR PROVIDING UNINTERRUPTED SERVICE FOR KBTX AND CW-8 - ALL IN HIGH DEFINITION.

SOMETIMES HEADLINES WE WRITE FOR WEB ARE JUST FLAT WRONG.

JERRY WROTE:

"Instead of saying 'Drug Deal Gone Wrong Led To Murder,' why not just say 'Drug Deal Led To Murder.' Otherwise, it's journalism gone wrong."

YOU KNOW, SOMETIMES WE DO THINGS THE SAME WAY FOR SO LONG, WE NO LONGER THINK OF HOW A HEADLINE MAY LOOK OR SOUND. I AGREE WITH JERRY. IS THERE A DRUG DEAL THAT EVER GOES "RIGHT?" TRULY? THE HEADLINE WAS CHANGED.

HERE'S ONE I RECEIVED JUST OVERNIGHT:

"The headline says 'stray bullet hits Jewett Man while driving.' They should really do more to keep those darned bullets from driving."

MISS B SENT THAT IN - AND I AGREE. WHILE A LITTLE HUMOROUS, THAT HEADLINE IS WRONG.

FINALLY - WE MENTIONED HOW THE FEED TO DIRECTV WAS FINE OUT OF KBTX BUT ISSUES REMAIN AT THE RECEIVE SITE. I DO TAKE OFFENSE THAT THE FIRST THOUGHT IS THAT KBTX IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THAT IS WRONG. SO IT IS WITH "SAM HOUSTON PLUMBER." HE HAD AN ISSUE WITH A FOOTBALL GAME A WEEK OR SO AGO.

"I would like to know why Sunday's game is in Spanish. I am watching 3.1 which should be in English. Have we gotten so mundane that we cannot put the right language on the right channel? It is now 2:13 PM and I cannot watch the only football game I wanted to watch today. Not worth watching if you cannot understand. Maybe you can be more observant in the future."

TO THE PLUMBER'S DEFENSE, I HAVE TO SAY - THIS NEW DIGITAL AGE IS CONFUSING AND DIFFICULT. ALL TELEVISION STATIONS FIND OUT SOMETHING NEW, IT SEEMS, ALL THE TIME, ABOUT HOW THIS ALL WORKS. OUR CHIEF ENGINEER RESPONDED QUICKLY ABOUT THIS, ADDRESSING THE "S-A-P" FEATURE ON TELEVISIONS THAT ENABLES A VIEWER TO CHOOSE SPANISH OR ENGLIGH. BOTTOM LINE - KBTX DID NOT AIR THE TEXANS GAME IN SPANISH AS THE PRIMARY LANGUAGE. BELIEVE ME, WE WOULD HAVE HEARD ABOUT IT FROM IRATE CALLERS AND E-MAILERS. MY CELL WOULD HAVE BEEN BURNED UP WITH CALLS. THE GAME WAS IN ENGLISH, AND IN SPITE OF ASKING FOR A METHOD OF CONTACT TO ASSIST, WE NEVER HEARD BACK AFTER A COUPLE OF E-MAIL EXCHANGES. BUT - WE WILL ALWAYS TRY.

WE WILL ALWAYS OWN UP TO ERRORS AND SITUATIONS OVER WHICH WE HAVE CONTROL.

WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS, BE IN TOUCH ANYTIME - YOUR OPINION ALWAYS MATTERS TO KBTX.
