"Firing off an e-mail to the General Manager of a local TV station is a bit out of the ordinary for me, but I felt compelled to respond to comments from a viewer. Suffice it to say, the comments strongly suggested the lack of professionalism on behalf of KBTX. I disagree. I watch BVTM & FN@4 on a daily basis. While the format is a bit more casual than "prime-time", the reporting is nonetheless spot-on. In all of the years I've been a viewer I have never witnessed anything that even broaches the level of unprofessional. What I do witness on a consistent basis is strong & relative reporting by people being human. To coin a phrase...It's a good thing!
NOW, M-V- WHILE I APPRECIATE THOSE KIND THOUGHTS AND GRACIOUSLY ACCEPT THEM, LET'S BE HONEST. THERE ARE MOMENTS OF - WELL - TIMES WE JUST AREN'T AS PROFESSIONAL AS WE SHOULD BE ON SOME CASES - EXHIBIT "A" STANDS BEFORE YOU AT THIS MOMENT. BUT I'VE ALWAYS SAID - IT IS ON ANY DAY - BETTER THAN MOST SMALL MARKETS, AND THE HARSHEST OF COMMENTS ARE WELL-RECEIVED, THOUGH WE MAY NOT LIKE THEM. THEY SERVE TO MAKE US BETTER.
ON-LINE ERRORS ARE IRRITATING AND SALLY FOUND ONE. SHE WROTE:
"Within reading two paragraphs if the story on KBTX mobile, I found three grammatical and typographical errors. Your reporter needs a crash course in written English."
SALLY - I APOLOGIZE. THANKS TO SOME OF THE NEWS CREW WHO CORRECTED THOSE INEXCUSABLE ERRORS - AND TOOK TIME TO VISIT WITH THE AUTHOR OF THE STORY. NOW - SALLY AND I MET DURING AGGIE GAME DAY AS I WAS HANDING OUT HOWDY BUTTONS AND HAD A GREAT CONVERSATION ABOUT SO MANY MIS-STEPS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. WE REMAIN A WORK IN PROGRESS ON SUCH OCCASIONS, AND ALL THESE TYPES OF ISSUES ARE ADDRESSED IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.
KBTX IS FORTUNATE TO HAVE SUPPORT FROM A COMPANY THAT UNDERSTANDS THE LANDSCAPE OF NEWS IS CHANGING.

"I have noticed a new small van whose graffiti identified as belonging to KBTX. What is in the goose egg on the roof some new technology that allows you to collect the news at a distance from the event?"
EXACTLY THAT - EXPANDING THE FLEET WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY. ITS AMAZING HOW FAST THINGS ARE CHANGING, BUT IN THE LONG RUN, BETTER FOR KBTX, BETTER FOR VIEWERS LIKE YOU, AND FOR THE COMMUNITY IN GENERAL.
FINALLY - SOME REASONS TO BE THANKFUL. WE LIVE IN AN INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY. IN JUST A COUPLE OF SHORT WEEKS, WE'LL JOIN TOGETHER, PUTTING ASIDE DIFFERENCES, AND WORK TO MAKE LIFE A LITTLE BETTER FOR OUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS WITH THE ANNUAL KBTX FOOD FOR FAMILIES FOOD DRIVE AT THE BRAZOS CENTER. DECEMBER 5TH WE BEGIN EARLY THAT MORNING AT 5:30 A.M. UNTIL THE END OF THE 10PM NEWSCAST - COLLECTING FOOD AND NON PERISHABLE DONATIONS AND CASH.
I'M THANKFUL FOR THIS INCREDIBLE STAFF OF KBTX FOR THE HOURS THEY INVEST PREPARING FOR THIS EVENT. I'M THANKFUL FOR THE THOUSANDS WHO COME BY - ALMOST EVERYONE SMILING - GIVING GENEROUSLY. I'M PERHAPS MOST GRATEFUL FOR THOSE WHO COME THROUGH THE LINE FROM MY EARLY YEARS OF KICKING OFF THIS EVENT IN A LITTLE WARM WEATHER OR IN A COLD WIND - OR EVEN SLEET - WHO STILL CONTRIBUTE YEAR AFTER YEAR. BUT THE ONES THAT STEAL MY HEART - ARE THOSE WHO COME NOW, AFTER BEING ON THE RECEIVING END OF MUCH NEEDED HELP - NOW IN A POSITION TO DONATE. THAT…IS THE REASON FOR THIS FOOD DRIVE.
SO - IN THE SPIRIT OF THANKSGIVING AND THE UPCOMING HOLIDAY SEASON - HERE'S TO BEING KINDER TO EACH OTHER NOW AND IN THE COMING YEAR, AND TO ANOTHER SEASON OF ENJOYING THE BLESSINGS WE HAVE OF JUST CALLING THE BRAZOS VALLEY HOME.
IT DOESN'T HURT TO HAVE A FOOTBALL TEAM THAT HELPED WRECK HAVOC ON THE B-C-S RANKINGS EITHER.
