CBS TENNIS PROGRAMMING ALWAYS BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN SOME CALLERS. I CAN'T LEGALLY *PLAY* THIS CALL FOR YOU - AND REALLY, IT WOULD BE INAPPROPRIATE TO TRY TO IMITATE THIS CALLER, WHO I BELIEVE WAS SIPPING BOURBON AND TAKING AN OCCASIONAL DRAW ON A PALL MALL - BUT HERE'S WHAT THE UNIDENTIFIED CALLER SAID.
"Take the (expletive) sports off and leave our soaps on for a change, will ya? Lord, they got a sports channel. Why don't they use'em instead of Channel 3?"
KBTX REALLY DOESN'T MAKE THAT DECISION COME U-S- OPEN TENNIS TIME, BUT SOAP OPERA WATCHERS GET ESPECIALLY IRRITATED DURING THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. BUT REMEMBER - THERE IS NOTHING NEW IN THE STORY LINE BECAUSE THERE WAS SO NO AIRING ANYWHERE. SO - WHEN THAT PROGRAMMING RESUMES, THE STORY PICKS UP RIGHT WHERE IT LEFT OFF AND ALL 10 COMMANDMENTS WILL MOST LIKELY CONTINUE TO BE BROKEN WITHIN THE FIRST 30-MINUTES.
GENE CALLED IN FROM HILLTOP LAKES:
"Sitting here trying to watch Hawaii 5-0 for 20 minutes and it's been nothing but junk advertisement. I didn't get TV, cable or anything else for just watching junk. Wish could you do something about that."
SINCE WE DIDN'T GET ANY OTHER REPORTS OF THIS NATURE, AND I WOULD HAVE HEARD ABOUT ISSUES WITH HAWAII 5-O, NOT SURE WHAT GENE WAS TALKING ABOUT. BUT I DO KNOW WE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH OUR SIGNAL TO SATELLITE SUBSCRIBERS, OFTEN CAUSING KBTX TO BE UNWATCHABLE. AFTER AT LEAST 30 CALLS AND E-MAILS, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT OUR FIBER LINE WASN'T BEING GIVEN ENOUGH BANDWIDTH AT CERTAIN TIMES OF THE DAY WHICH CAUSED A PROBLEM THAT HAS SINCE BEEN CORRECTED. ALWAYS LET US KNOW WITH ISSUES YOU ARE HAVING WITH THE KBTX SIGNAL VIA SATELLITE.
AS POLITICAL SEASON HEATS UP, SO DO OUR E-MAILS. HOWEVER - CINDY HAD A GOOD IDEA.
"As a viewer of your station, I would be grateful if, during the election season, you would insist on the accuracy of any third-party ads you air and make fact checking to prevent political deception a regular feature of your news programming."
CINDY - YOUR REQUEST IS RIGHT ON TARGET. AND I'M BEING HONEST. THERE ARE REGULATIONS IN PLACE TO PROTECT AGAINST FAULTY CLAIMS. SOMETIMES IT TAKES A SHORT WHILE TO RECEIVE VERIFICATION OF THE ACCURACY OF CLAIMS. DURING THIS TIME OF THE YEAR, KBTX DOES NOT HAVE THE MANPOWER TO DO THE INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH IT WOULD TAKE TO DO WHAT YOU ARE ASKING. WHY? THERE ARE SO MANY TWISTS AND TURNS, POLITICAL ORGANIZATIONS THAT INTERPRET DIFFERENTLY THAN THE REST OF US, AND ONE AD COULD REQUIRE SO MUCH TIME TO RESEARCH, THE DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS OF KBTX OVERALL WOULD BE COMPROMISED. DEEP TOPIC HERE, I GET THAT. BE ASSURED - THERE ARE PEOPLE FAR MORE EQUIPPED TO RESEARCH THESE TYPES OF ADS, AND WE HEAR FROM THE FREQUENTLY - OFTEN MORE THAN ONCE IN A DAY.
YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THIS NOTE, PLEASE KNOW THAT - IN MY OPINION.
