AS WE CELEBRATED WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY YESTERDAY, IT IS OUR HOPE THAT YOU TOOK A MOMENT TO TRULY REFLECT ON THE SIGNIFICANCE OF INDEPENDENCE DAY, REMEMBERING THOSE WHO FOUGHT FOR FREEDOM - AND WHO ARE FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM AT THIS VERY MOMENT.
YOU MAY RECALL THE STORY OF THE FLOWER'S BOYS, NOW LIVING WITH THEIR GRANDMOTHER, SUSAN SOLICH, IN COLORADO SPRINGS. IN A LOCAL TRAGEDY, THE BOYS JUSTIN, CONNER, BRANDON AND TYLER LOST THEIR MOM AS SHE PASSED AWAY IN HER SLEEP, THEN A SHORT WHILE LATER, THEIR DAD DIED OF A HEART ATTACK. AND NOW - THE FIRE IN COLORADO SPRINGS BURNED DOWN SUSAN'S HOUSE, AND THE BOYS ARE STARTING OVER --AGAIN.
KBTX RECEIVED AN OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF E-MAIL AND CALLS WANTING TO KNOW HOW THEY COULD HELP, WHERE TO SEND DONATIONS. I WON'T READ THOSE, BUT THE MESSAGE IS THE SAME. IN TIME OF TRAGEDY, THE FALL OF BONFIRE, HURRICANE KATRINA, TORNADOES IN MISSOURI OR WILDFIRES IN COLORADO, ALL OUR DIFFERENCES ARE PUT ASIDE TO DO WHAT WE DO BEST - BE BETTER TOGETHER BY SUPPORTING A COMMON CAUSE: REACHING OUT TO FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS AND THOSE IN NEED.
IF YOU'D LIKE TO MAIL A DONATION, GIFT CARDS OR OTHER NOTES, HERE'S THE ADDRESS ONCE AGAIN:

JACK AND THELMA WROTE IN:
Thank you for selecting us for the KBTX Backyard Barbeque. Our decision to return to the Bryan College Station area after retiring from the Air Force was an easy one. It was here during our days as members of the Corps of Cadets, where we first experienced the steadfast support this community consistently gives our military. Please extend our thanks to Shel Winkley and his team. We very much enjoyed talking to him, and it was a real treat to see him 'do the weather' live from our backyard. We are grateful for the warm 'welcome home' we have received from the community and the KBTX family."
AND JACK AND THELMA - WE THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO COME TO YOUR HOME, AND INDEED - WELCOME BACK TO BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION.
AS YOU CAN SEE, CHANGE HAS BEEN THE NORM HERE LATELY. THE NEW SET IS ONE WEEK AWAY, AND WE'VE HAD A NUMBER OF PEOPLE FILL IN ON VARIOUS SHOWS AS VACATIONS KICK IN.
MICHAEL FROM COLLEGE STATION WRITES:
"Dont get me wrong i love my KBTX news casters, but why are my weather people all at different times?"
WELL - BOB HAS BEEN OFF HOSTING HIS TOUR GROUP ON AN ALASKAN CRUISE. THIS MOVED SHEL WINKLEY TO OUR 6 AND 10 NEWSCASTS, KAILEY CAREY MOVED TO HELP WITH MORNINGS AND WEEKENDS ONE NIGHT, AND THIS GAVE NEW METEOROLOGIST CRYSTAL PLOEHN TIME ON BVTM. A LITTLE INSIDE INFORMATION - BECOMING AN ON-AIR METEOROLOGIST IS DIFFICULT FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS. BECAUSE THE MORNING NEWS HERE IS LIKE 6-NEWSCASTS IN ONE, CRYSTAL GETS A LOT OF REPETITION AS OPPOSED TO A WEEKEND NEWSCAST WHERE YOU HAVE A WEATHERCAST ONCE, THEN YOU'RE DONE. THINGS WILL BE BACK TO NORMAL SOON. BOB IS DUE BACK ON-AIR NEXT WEEK.
AND CONGRATULATIONS TO ONE OF OUR OWN - DANIEL ARMBRUSTER IS MOVING TO AUSTIN TO BECOME A REPORTER AND FILL-IN ANCHOR FOR FOX AFFILIATE, KTBC. WE WILL MISS DANIEL, BUT IT IS ALWAYS NICE TO SEE STATIONS IN LARGE MARKETS COME TO KBTX TO FILL OPEN POSITIONS. WE WISH HIM WELL.
IT COULD CHANGE - BUT RIGHT NOW - AS SOON AS THE LIGHTING EXPERT IS DONE NEXT WEEK, WE SHOULD SEE THE NEW KBTX SET ON-AIR FOR THE FIRST TIME THURSDAY, JULY 12TH, DURING FIRST NEWS AT 4. WITH THE HELP OF KENT MOORE CABINETS, THIS SET HAS EXCEEDED EXPECATION AND IS NOTHING SHORT OF STUNNING. WE HOPE YOU LIKE IT.
AS YOU CAN SEE, WE SHARED THE NICE STUFF WITH YOU - THE OTHERS ARE OUT THERE, BUT TODAY I DECIDED TO DECLARE AS A - HAPPY DAY. HOPE YOURS IS AS WELL.
