THERE WAS EXCITEMENT THIS MORNING WHEN THE WALLS CAME A-TUMBLIN DOWN FOR THE OLD PLAZA HOTEL. I COMPARE THIS TYPE OF EUPHORIA TO THE ONE CREATED WHEN THAT BIG GENERATOR PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD A FEW YEARS BACK. HECK, ONE KBTX FAMILY HAD THEIR PICTURE MADE BY IT AND SENT IT OUT AS THE FAMILY CHRISTMAS CARD. WON'T NAME NAMES, BUT - THE MALE OF SAID FAMILY WORKS IN SPORTS.
RECENTLY AT TEXAS A&M, SAMANTHA KETCHAM RAN FOR YELL LEADER, HOPING TO BREAK NEW GROUND BY BECOMING THE FIRST FEMALE TO SERVE AS YELL LEADER. UNIVERSITY POLICE ARRESTED KETCHAM FOR ALLEGED THEFT INVOLVING TWO BICYCLES. THIS OPENED UP A STORM OF CRITICISM DIRECTED AT KBTX FOR AIRING THIS STORY.
"Don't believe everything you read or hear in the media. They are not always right and in this case they are dead wrong!"
"I wish KBTX would have contacted Samantha first to get the true story…She happened to accidentally pick up the wrong bikes, and one had a tracker on it. She told the police the true story, but they called her a liar. Shame on KBTX for not getting to the truth and for showing the other side of the story."
T-H - WHEN A RELEASE COMES IN FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT, WE GENERALLY DON'T CONTACT THE ARRESTED INDIVIDUALS FOR THEIR SIDE OF THE STORY AT THAT POINT. WE REPORT IT EXACTLY AS IT IS TOLD TO US. NOW, IF THERE ARE HOLES IN THE STORY, WE WILL ASK. GETTING TO THE TRUTH IS THE JOB OF A JUDGE AND/OR JURY. WE DID REPORT HER SIDE.
ANOTHER COMMENT ON THIS TOPIC:
"It is pitiful that KBTX had to run this and do not even know for sure yet. And if it does come to be untrue I wonder what KBTX will do. I wonder what she will do concerning KBTX. Also, I did not know misdemeanors were publicized with the name and picture."
KIM EXPRESSED DISAPPOINTMENT, CALLING THIS TABLOID JOURNALISM, TELLING US TO INTERVIEW THE BIKE OWNERS. A VIEWER RESPONDED TO KIM SAYING THAT IF THERE IS MORE INFORMATION, SHARE IT WITH KBTX SO THEY CAN REPORT IT. SOME PEOPLE ARE DESTINED TO THINK THE WORST. KIM'S DIRECT RESPONSE:
"From what the family says, KBTX doesn't sound interested."
KIM - KBTX NEWS DID SPEAK WITH THE FAMILY AS QUOTED AT KBTX.COM AND OF COURSE WE ARE INTERESTED IN KNOWING MORE ABOUT THIS STORY. YOUR COMMENT IS FALSE.
FINALLY, FROM SAMANTHA'S GRANDMOTHER:
"I cannot believe you would say such negative things about my granddaughter Samantha. She wouldn't steal anything! She was just trying to help out a friend and accidently took the wrong bike! You make her sound like she is a criminal, which she is not!!You are low down to report like that. You never bothered to mention her side of the story. Shame on you!! You will owe her an apology soon!"
I RESPONDED ON FACEBOOK AND DIRECTLY TO SOME WHO TOOK ISSUE WITH OUR STORY. ONE EVEN SAID "TO BE FAIR, PUT UP EVERYONE'S PICTURE WHO IS ARRESTED FOR BIKE THEFT."
FIRST, THIS WAS NOT JUST ANYONE. THIS WAS A HIGH PROFILE YOUNG LADY WHO RAN FOR YELL LEADER AND WAS IN THE NEWS NOT LONG AGO. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY REPORTING AN ARREST - ALLEGING THEFT - WAS WRONG ON THE PART OF KBTX. IF YOU HAVE ISSUES WITH ANYONE, IT SHOULD BE UNIVERSITY POLICE! THE CASE WILL BE DECIDED AND ALL INFORMATION WILL COME OUT.
WHILE I DON'T CHOOSE DAY TO DAY NEWS CONTENT, I KNOW I'M ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL CONTENT. MY PERSONAL OPINION? NOT NECESSARILY THAT OF KBTX - I BELIEVE THESE CHARGES WILL BE DROPPED. I DO NOT HAVE ALL THE FACTS, AT LEAST AT THE LEVEL OF U-P-D, BUT FROM WHAT WE KNOW - I, TOO, BELIEVE SHE WILL BE FOUND INNOCENT. NOT MINE TO DECIDE. WE SUPPORT LAW ENFORCEMENT, BUT BEYOND THAT, WE SUPPORT JUSTICE - AND WE'LL STAY ON TOP OF THIS STORY.
BE IN TOUCH ANY TIME, WE'RE LISTENING, AND YOUR OPINION ALWAYS MATTERS.
