The Wright Response - May 3, 2012

THERE ARE TIMES WHEN DECISIONS BASED ON JOURNALISTIC STANDARDS AREN’T THE BEST – SO IT IS WHEN THERE IS TRAGEDY THAT STRIKES FAMILIES RESULTING IN DEATH.

A MOTORCYCLIST LOST HIS LIFE OVER THE WEEKEND, AND KBTX INCLUDED INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PERSON’S PAST. NOW – THE ARGUMENT COULD BE MADE THAT PERHAPS BY REPORTING THAT INFORMATION, A LIFE COULD BE SAVED, CAUSING SOME TO THINK TWICE BEFORE GOING DOWN A CERTAIN PATH OF LIFE – RIGHT OR WRONG. BUT IN THIS CASE, UNTIL TOXICOLOGY REPORTS COME OUT, AND MAYBE NOT EVEN THEN – THERE WAS REALLY NO PLACE FOR INCLUDING PAST LEGAL ISSUES WHEN REPORTING ON THIS STORY.

TREY WROTE:

Why would u do that to his family and friends???? The man is dead and this is how u show respect????? This is the lowest of the low!!! We r not related to this gentleman but this was just disgusting.

CHAD WROTE:

I am seriously appalled at your actions. My friend Mike dies and you people at KBTX choose to slander him. You people have absolutely no class. He was a good man that made some bad choices. He was the kind of friend that would have your back no matter what the odds and would do anything for you.

GINNY SENT THIS MESSAGE:

People aren't perfect! It pains me to know that his family, friends, and loved ones have been disgraced by this appalling news announcement.

I’VE RESPONDED TO ALL CONCERNS – ON-LINE, ON-PHONE, AND WITH ONE FAMILY MEMBER IN PERSON. AS WITH ALL SITUATIONS, WE WILL LEARN FROM THIS, AND SINCERELY APOLOGIZE FOR ANY ADDITIONAL GRIEF WE MAY HAVE CAUSED IN OUR HANDLING OF THIS SITUATION.

WHILE WE WILL ADMIT TO ERRORS IN JUDGMENT, THERE ARE TIMES WE DO GET IT RIGHT. SHANE MCAULIFFE DID AN INCREDIBLE STORY WITH THE DESIGNER AND CONTRACTOR OF THE PLAZA HOTEL – THE ONE THAT’S ABOUT TO BE IMPLODED.

SANDY WROTE:

Excellent piece on Joe Ferreri and The Plaza Hotel. Though I'm not a native of Bryan/College Station, I've lived here longer than in my hometown, so it really is my home. I appreciate stories like this that show the history of the area.

WE ALSO HEARD FROM JOE:

I just finished watching your coverage of the Plaza implosion. From Meredith & John's expert set up to Clay's live report, then the icing on the cake - Shane's touching story on the builder of the Plaza. I have to confess, I don't even remember the stories that followed because, as someone who grew up in the BV, I was still wrapped up in memories You guys just gave me the chance to relive some wonderful memories long forgotten.

IF YOU MISSED THIS STORY, IT REMAINS ON-LINE ON OUR WEB CHANNEL, KBTX.COM. AND YES – KBTX WILL HAVE EXTENSIVE COVERAGE OF THE PLAZA IMPLOSION, TEAM COVERAGE AS WE CALL IT. AND BEFORE YOU SAY – “THAT’S A SMALL TOWN FOR YOU…” – I’M PRETTY SURE THERE IS A LOT OF INTRIGUE ABOUT A BUILDING THAT DEFINES THE LOOK OF THE CITY – BEING IMPLODED. IN FACT, I HAVEN’T SEEN THIS MUCH BUZZ SINCE THE BIG GENERATOR GOT STUCK IN TOWN A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK. SO WHEN THE WALLS COME-A-TUMBLIN DOWN…NEWS 3 WILL BE THERE, AND THAT’S ONE STORY WE SHOULD GET 100% RIGHT IN EVERYONE’S EYES. THE VIDEO WILL SPEAK FOR ITSELF, AND COLLECTIVELY, WE WILL ALL BE PART OF HISTORY.
