Since 1984, he has been a fixture in the Brazos Valley, and Friday, he signs off from its airwaves.
Tom Turbiville's final sportscasts at News Talk 1620 WTAW come during the 5:00 p.m. hour. He's leaving after 19 years at Bryan Broadcasting, as he and his wife Judy are moving to Nebraska to be closer to their grandchildren.
The veteran broadcaster will do his last on-air updates from the lower level of the Crystal Park Plaza off Highway 6 in College Station. The public is welcome to watch his final show, then stay to wish the Turbivilles the best. Refreshments will be served.
Turbiville originally came to College Station as Texas A&M's sports information director. After a few years in that role, he opened a putt-putt golf course, then worked for radio station Aggie 96.
For nearly 20 years, Turbiville was ever-present on WTAW as part of the morning "Infomaniacs" show, the evening sportscasts and the "Bravo Brazos Valley" segment highlighting good people and projects in the community.
Turbiville also served as the sideline reporter for radio coverage of A&M football, broadcasted A&M Consolidated High School football games, and wrote columns in The Bryan-College Station Eagle.
Among the efforts he is most proud of, the San Antonio native worked to tell the stories of local veterans through multiple outlets, including the "Voices of Veterans" segment on KBTX and the "Veterans of the Valley" show on KAMU-TV.
