ALL TOO OFTEN I START BY THANKING THIS GENEROUS COMMUNITY AND AREA FOR SUPPORT DURING TIMES OF TRAGEDY, AND THIS REGION KNOWS ALL TOO WELL WHAT THE PEOPLE IN WEST ARE EXPERIENCING. THE COLLECTIONS ARE FAR EXCEEDING EXPECTATION IN THE BRAZOS VALLEY MEDIA GIVING BACK FUND, A COMBINED EFFORT OF KBTX, THE EAGLE AND BRYAN BROADCASTING.

WE RECEIVED THIS NOTE:

My name is Meaghan, Public Relations coordinator at Mastery Technologies in Novi, Michigan. As an online training company, our passion and mission is workplace safety. I wanted to give you a 'heads-up' that a donation check is on its way to you from Mastery Technologies.

THIS E-MAIL FROM MEAGHAN MADE OUR DAY AND WAS RATHER HUMBLING. DONATIONS FROM MANY DIFFERENT LOCATIONS FROM ACROSS THE STATE AND COUNTRY - LIKE MICHIGAN - HAVE COME IN.

THE BRAZOS VALLEY TAKES CARE OF ITS OWN LIKE NO OTHER, BUT WHEN NEIGHBORS ARE IN NEED, YOU ARE THERE. THERE IS A COMMON BOND WE ALL HAVE WITH FIRST RESPONDERS, FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF THIS FUND THAT WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AMONG FAMILIES AND DEPARTMENTS EXPERIENCING TRAGIC LOSS, WE THANK YOU.

KBTX COVERAGE OF THIS EVENT AND THE BOSTON EXPLOSION IS ALWAYS UNDER SCRUTINY. S-D- WASN'T HAPPY WITH THE DECISION TO AIR COVERAGE DURING THE PURSUIT OF THE BOMBING SUSPECT.

HE WROTE:

With respect to this evenings interruption of prime time scheduling, there are two sure bets that can be counted on when it comes to local television channels. The first is that the programming gets interrupted by what you, or some network exec, considers 'Breaking News' stories that have absolutely no connection to the majority of the viewers in Central Texas - and then are absurdly dragged on for days. Tonight's particular event is coverage of the bombing in Boston. The second thing that can be counted on is that your audience has a remote control that can dump KBTX in favor of 250 + satellite or cable program channels that feature reality TV, movies, sports, and a host of other more entertaining events. Most of us viewers really don't care one bit about what YOU think is worthy of an interruption to prime time TV programming. Let me make it two digit IQ simple for you. If it isn't in our back yard then we don't care and will find some other programming to watch. Assuming that you are a normal TV viewer, I would ask you: Do you go home after work and tune in to your station to watch the breaking news programs or do you select something entertaining?

S-D, I ALWAYS RESPECT OPINIONS, BUT FOR ME? I WATCH WHAT IS RELEVANT TO ME, IMPORTANT TO ME. THERE ARE AT LEAST 250 CHURCHES AND 250 CHANNELS, NOT ANY ONE CHURCH OR TV CHANNEL WILL BE PERFECT ALL THE TIME.

I DISAGREE THAT IF IT ISN'T IN YOUR BACK YARD - NO ONE CARES. I CARE ABOUT THE MARATHON ESPECIALLY WHEN PEOPLE FROM HERE WERE RUNNING IN IT. I CARE ABOUT PEOPLE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN WEST, AND BEYOND THE STORIES FROM WEST, I CARE ABOUT KNOWING HOW WE CAN HELP.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO BE A SOURCE FOR BREAKING NEWS AND INFORMATION THAT WE BELIEVE IS IMPORTANT TO THIS AREA. THAT - IS OUR CALLING AND MISSION.

AND FINALLY, A BOB FRENCH UPDATE. BOB IS BACK AT KBTX WORKING ON AN ABBREVIATED SCHEDULE, RAMPING HIS HOURS BACK TO FULL-TIME. YOU WILL SEE BOB ON-AIR BETWEEN 8 AND 9 AM DURING CBS THIS MORNING WHEN WE DO LOCAL WEATHER, AND NEXT WEEK ON NEWS 3 AT NOON. BOB WILL RETURN TO NEWS 3 AT 6 AND 10 IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

HERE'S TO A MUCH CALMER MONTH OF MAY - JUST AROUND THE CORNER. BE IN TOUCH ANYTIME, WE ARE ALWAYS LISTENING, AND YOUR OPINION MATTERS TO THE FAMILY OF KBTX NEWS 3.
