Questions about content this week -- the language it

KBTX General Manager, Mike Wright

A couple of weeks back, we were having issues with DirecTV viewers seeing soap operas in Spanish. The closed captioning was in English, but it was concerning to some viewers. However, sidenote: last I saw, whatever Ten Commandments were being broken in English you could likely tell the same by watching it in Spanish.

Anyway, as usual, when viewers called DirecTV, they were told, "that is TV station's problem." Turns out, it wasn't, and it was addressed by DirecTV engineers, and for that we are grateful.

Same communication issues are alive and well when it comes to CW-8. We heard from a family in Caldwell. They write:

"We live in Caldwell, our CW is 14, we would much rather have 8, anything I can do about that? Directv tells me it is by zip code this true, living in the country is not great all the time, have a great day."

Well, unless your zip code is Washington, DC, maybe I could agree with that. DirecTV does not bring in CW-8 from Bryan/College Station because they carry the Washington, DC feed. Do they have access to it and have we offered it? Yes. This is their decision, not mine. A way to work around that satellite issue is an antenna that is really small. Depending on where you are, likely you can receive CW-8 that way. Wish I could help you with this one, but I thank you for writing. Bottom line, we did not make that decision for DirecTV.

We received a note regarding a programming concern:

"Did I rightly hear that Mike & Molly may replace Seinfeld?? Please say it ain't so!!!! That is my nightly fix!"

I'm sayin' it ain't so! Seinfeld will stay in the 10-11 time slot, and Mike & Molly will join the later afternoon/early evening line-up on CW-8 starting this fall.

As you know, we hear from one political side or another from time to time. S-R took time to write in:

"I am a daily visitor to your website, and just want to express my unhappiness at the News Max headlines listed on your website. I don't even have to click on any of these stories to know that they are fueled by a rabid anti-Obama, pro-Repubican point of view. Do you really think that all residents of the Brazos Valley think that such clearly editorial 'news' stories are anything but biased political propaganda? Come on! It may have been true at some point that all residents of the Brazos Valley vote Republican, are racist, are anti-government, etc., etc. But if you believe that this is still the case, you are sadly mistaken. As an educated voter, I am appalled that you seem to think that News Max is 'objective.' Get rid of it!"

S-R, thanks for concerns. NewsMax pays to pull date and stories from KBTX that we post. Some of our stories show up on other websites. That service is simply that, a compilation of articles from around the country. We will take this into consideration. Certainly, no stories other than our own reflect the views and opinions of KBTX.

Thanks as always for all views and opinions. Those who take the time to write mean a lot to me. You always have my ear and those of the family of KBTX Media.
