SOMETIME AGO WE RECEIVED AN E-MAIL SUGGESTING WE START OUR BROADCAST DAY WITH THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER. MANY YEARS AGO, KBTX DID THIS WHEN THE STATION SIGNED ON AND SIGNED OFF.
SINCE WE STARTED 24-HOUR BROADCASTING IN THE EARLY 90S, THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WENT AWAY. BUT – WE THOUGHT THE SUGGESTION WAS A GOOD ONE, SO – EACH MORNING AT 5:29, PRIOR TO THE FIRST HALF HOUR OF BRAZOS VALLEY THIS MORNING, WE SALUTE OUR COUNTRY WITH THE PLAYING OF THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER, COMPLETE WITH VIDEO FROM THROUGHOUT THE AREA – WHICH – WE WILL UPDATE FROM TIME TO TIME. AS MENTIONED SO MANY TIMES, WE ARE LISTENING, AND THIS SUGGESTION WAS A GOOD ONE.
FORGIVE ME FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND THE E-MAIL TO GIVE CREDIT TO THE PERSON WHO SUGGESTED IT, I’LL KEEP LOOKING. WE DO THANK YOU FOR THE COMMENT.
ROBERT IN CENTERVILLE NOTICED:
“Mr. Wright, I just tuned in this morning to watch the morning show, and was pleasantly surprised to see our National Anthem. Very nice, and I thank you for that. I remember when that used to be the "standard" with stations years ago with their morning sign-on. Nice to see that again.”
AS MENTIONED MANY TIMES, CARELESS ERRORS ARE IRRITATING AND RIGHTFULLY, OUR VIEWERS CALL US OUT. SUCH WAS THE CASE WITH BRANDEE WHO WROTE:
“As a fan of your station, I am getting quite irritated with the lack of editing that goes into your news stories. Not only does this show lack of professionalism, it makes the reading of the news hard to understand. Can you please try harder to proof read before posting news on your site? There have been more than one occasion where I don't even understand the news you are trying to tell your followers because 1) the names are spelled differently throughout the story and 2) there are always double words in there such as the the under understand. Not all of us have the luxury to watch it on the television and rely on getting our news on kbtx.com. Please, show a little more professionalism!"
HERE’S SOMETHING ALL PARENTS CAN RELATE TO. HEARING COMMENTS FROM THE OUTSIDE SOMETIMES WORKS BETTER THAN ANYTHING I CAN SAY – EXCEPT – DISCIPLINARY ACTION WHICH IS SOMETIMES WHAT IT TAKES. I JUST DON’T GET WHY WE ARE CARELESS AT TIMES WHEN ALL WE HAVE – ANY INDIVIDUAL HAS – IS CREDIBILITY. WE MUST TIGHTEN UP, AND WE THANK PEOPLE LIKE BRANDEE FOR MAKING US ACCOUNTABLE.
AND NOW A PERSONAL NOTE FROM THE KBTX FAMILY REGARDING CHIEF METEOROLOGIST BOB FRENCH. WELL OVER 300 INQUIRIES AND COUNTING, PEOPLE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE BARBARA WHO WROTE:
“Haven’t seen Bob French on the weather lately. What is his status? Miss seeing him.”
FIRST, BOB WANTS YOU TO KNOW HIS PHYSICAL CONDITION IS FINE. LIKE SO MANY OF US, CHALLENGES SOMETIMES SEEM TO HIT ALL AT THE SAME TIME, OFTEN TIMES IN FAMILY SITUATIONS. THEY MAY NOT ALL BE MAJOR ISSUES, BUT ENOUGH THAT THEY REQUIRE PERSONAL TIME TO ADDRESS THEM.
BOB IS ON PERSONAL LEAVE AND WE ARE UNSURE WHEN HE WILL RETURN. IN A CONVERSATION WITH BOB THIS PAST FRIDAY, HE SAYS HE WILL RETURN SOONER THAN LATER. UNTIL THAT TIME, KBTX IS BLESSED TO HAVE SOME OF THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST IN OUR WEATHER DEPARTMENT WHO HAVE STEPPED IN TO LEAD. EVERYONE HERE INTERNED WITH BOB AT KBTX AT SOME POINT, AND NOW ARE SHARING THEIR TRAINING AND SKILLS TO PICK UP THE SLACK.
PERSONALLY, IT IS HUMBLING TO THE KBTX FAMILY TO RECEIVE SO MANY QUESTIONS, E-MAILS, LETTERS, CALLS, ALL CONCERNED WITH WHERE BOB FRENCH IS. THAT IS THE PART OF THIS RELATIONSHIP WE ARE HUMBLED TO EXPERIENCE – YOU ARE FAMILY TO US, AND WE ARE FAMILY TO YOU. WE FUSS LIKE FAMILY, WE WORK TOGETHER LIKE FAMILY – AND THROUGH IT ALL, WE CARE FOR EACH OTHER. WE’LL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON BOB’S SITUATION.
WE’RE LISTENING…AND YOUR OPINION ALWAYS MATTERS TO KBTX.
