KBTX General Manager, Mike Wright
FOR SOME REASON CBS DECIDED NOT TO AIR THE FIREWORKS DISPLAY AND CONCERT BY THE BOSTON POPS AS THEY USUALLY DO ON JULY 4TH. A FEW PEOPLE CALLED IN, R-B ALSO WROTE TO US:
"I know KBTX had nothing to do with it, but I am very disappointed in the decision by CBS not to broadcast the Boston Pops July 4th concert any longer. I have already sent my concerns to CBS, but I wanted our local affiliate to know. Boston is the cradle of American liberty. The Pops annual show always is my favorite. There is always something special about the concert from the shell."
I AGREE. AT THIS TIME IN OUR COUNTRY'S HISTORY, ANYTHING TO UNIFY US WOULD BE BETTER THAN NORMAL PROGRAMMING. AS ALWAYS, THIS MESSAGE OF CONCERN WAS FORWARDED TO OUR CBS AFFILIATE REP IN NEW YORK - WHO - IN MY OPINION IS INDEED ONE OF THE BEST.
DEBBIE TOOK EXCEPTION TO A SEGMENT IN OUR 4:00 NEWSCAST.
"My husband (a veteran) and I are very offended by Kristen Bean's demonstration of a cleaning cloth for a cell phone that is a US flag. On the Fourth of July or any other day the flag is not a rag!!!!"
L-G ALSO EXPRESSED AN OPINION:
"The American flag is not a cleaning rag! Please send your tech talk person to any veteran or any military personnel for a lesson on why. Her parents should be ashamed of her raising."
DEBBIE AND L-G - - YOU ARE RIGHT ON TARGET WITH YOUR COMMENT. NEWS 3'S KARLA CASTILLO RESPONDED TO THIS, WE WILL LET THE PEOPLE AT TECH TALK KNOW ABOUT IT AS WELL.
AROUND EVERY CORNER ARE E-MAILS LIKE THIS ONE FROM K-T, AND THE SUBJECT LINE IS: "I HAVE A CHALLENGE FOR YOU." AND THAT'S USUALLY NOT A GOOD START.
THE NOTE SAYS:
I am challenging you to report this news as I have read it. There is a news article by The Liberty Paper that states by Obama's in his own words said that we should not celebrate the 4th of July. I have been here for 10 years in Bryan and always hear how you sway your stories to the left and wonder if you guys are really doing any investigating reporting or just reading off a teleprompter. Here is a story that was written right from the President's mouth. Please read and if you have the courage check it out and report it as you see it. It is a shame that any president would tell Americans not to celebrate this great day.
FEW THINGS ARE MORE IRRITATING THAN THIS KINDA STUFF. FIRST, I WAS OK UNTIL READING "ALWAYS HEAR HOW YOU SWAY YOUR STORIES TO THE LEFT…THE SHOT ABOUT INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING AND JUST READING OFF A TELEPROMPTER." THIS PERSON JUST WANTS TO ATTACK. RATHER THAN WASTE THE NEWS DEPARTMENT'S TIME WITH THIS, I INVESTIGATED. THE LIBERTY PAPER IS KNOWN FOR WRITING SATTIRE FROM TIME TO TIME AND THE STORY WAS ONCE LABLED AS "POLITICAL SATTIRE" AND "POLITICAL HUMOR." WHAT THIS PERSON REFERS TO IS NOT FACT. WHY WILL WE NOT REPORT IT? BECAUSE IT ISN'T TRUE!?! AND WHY THE TONE OF THIS E-MAIL? YOUR ASSERTIONS ARE ABSURD, AND PEOPLE LIKE THIS WHO HAVE TIME TO WRITE THESE COMMENTS AND SEND THEM DO SO BECAUSE SOMEONE TOLD THEM TO. THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE WAY STORIES ARE WRITTEN, YET GET UPSET WHEN STORIES AREN'T WRITTEN TO REFLECT THEIR WAY OF THINKING - EVEN IF - IT ISN'T TRUE.
THIS ISN'T POLITICAL - AND NO, THERE IS NO DEFENDING ANYONE HERE. IF THE PRESIDENT DIDN'T SAY IT, WHY SPREAD IT? BECAUSE IN GENERAL, SO MANY ARE JUST ANGRY. THIS COUNTRY IS DIVIDED ENOUGH THAN TO SPREAD THINGS LIKE THIS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR A REASON TO STAY MAD. WE'D RATHER FIND SOMEONE TO BLAME RATHER THAN FIND A FIX. FOR MANY, LIFE IS MORE INTERESTING THAT WAY - I GUESS.
BE IN TOUCH ANYTIME, WE'RE ALWAYS LISTENING, AND YOUR OPINION MATTERS TO KBTX NEWS 3.
