I know we usually start with the controversial, not-so-good e-mails that come in, but today, a couple of congratulations to really nice guys. First, an overdue congrats to my friend and Outback Proprietor, Tap Bentz, elected as vice-president of the Texas Restaurant Association. Quite the honor to be recognized by your peers. And to Royce Hickman, the ambassador of Bryan/College Station as the CEO of the Chamber. Royce received a Distinguished Service Award based on leadership within the Texas Chamber of Commerce organization helping lead that group through a staff change and strategic planning process. Congratulations to Royce and to Tap.
We often receive notes from those who don't see news stories posted on kbtx.com. Recently R-O wrote in:
"Six people were shot to death in their homes in a suburb of Houston, less than 100 miles from here; it's on the front page of CNN's website, but not on KBTX's. Why not??"
KBTX responded. Sometimes, other stories are posted later in great volume, which allows big stories like this to fall down off the home page of kbtx.com. We had extensively covered that story. Not in THIS case, but in some cases, a simple refresh to the home page will bring the latest stories to the top of your smart phone.
More opinions from the immigration issue and undocumented children coming over the border. SJ chimed in:
"Ignorance is NOT bliss. Some of these children are carrying tuberculosis, lice, scabies, measles, and chicken pox. It IS a recipe for disaster to have them anywhere NEAR hundreds of thousands of healthy, young college students. There are reports in San Antonio from Lackland AFB that verify exactly what I am saying. Sad and pathetic."
We do like getting comments about our on-air staff. Granted, some are hard to read. Others are worth sharing with gratitude, like this one from MLB:
"Mike - I don't know how much one person's opinion is worth, but I really think Haley Jennings does a nice job on weekends, and would love to see her role expanded. She comes across as genuine, when so many news anchors in the area can be stilted, melodramatic or sing song. Just thought I would put in my 'vote'."
MLB, thanks for the note. We are indeed proud to have Haley back at KBTX after an internship many years ago. She comes back home after many years in Minneapolis.
Another positive comment about Kristin Guilfoos in the morning on BVTM. LSW passes along this comment:
"Mr. Wright, In our opinion Ms. Guilfoos (Kristin), has been such a pleasant addition to the early morning news. She is so personable, congenial, & adds TREMENDOUSLY to the a.m. staff. So once again - thank you for bringing Kristin and her bubbling personality into KBTX."
We do thank those who take time to be in touch about the good and the note so good. Again, KBTX feels fortunate to have the on-air staff we are blessed with at this time. Write in anytime, we are always listening, and your opinion matters to the family of KBTX News 3.
