ON THIS SPECIAL DAY IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY, WE PAUSE TO THANK THOSE WHO HAVE ENSURED OUR FREEDOM. I HOPE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF DAYS LIKE THIS AREN'T LOST WITH OUR CURRENT GENERATION. I FEAR THAT YEAR AFTER YEAR, DAYS LIKE THE 4TH OF JULY, MEMORIAL DAY AND VETERANS DAY MAY DIMINISH IN OVERALL IMPORTANCE TO GENERATIONS THAT FOLLOW.
FORTUNATELY, AS LONG AS WE WORK TO PRESERVE OUR FREEDOMS, OUR CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN AND ALL WHO FOLLOW - WILL NEVER KNOW ANYTHING DIFFERENT AS MUCH OF THE REST OF THE WORLD EXPERIENCES. FREEDOM CAME AT A PRICE, MAY WE ALWAYS REMEMBER.
DAYS LIKE THIS IN MEXIA WERE ALWAYS EXCITING - SEEMED MORE FAMILIES TURNED OUT AT HUGHES PARK FOR COOKOUTS, SILLY GAMES AND FIREWORKS. IN CELEBRATION OF TODAY, WE TURN BACK THE CLOCK TO 1997. THE CAMPAIGN ON KBTX WAS OUR SIGNATURE THEME, "THIS IS YOUR NEWS." WHILE THIS WILL HOPEFULLY MAKE A COMEBACK SOONER THAN LATER, LET'S CALL IT THROWBACK THURSDAY.
IN THIS PROMOTIONAL MINUTE YOU'LL SEE FACES FROM THE PAST AND PRESENT OF KBTX, AND CHILDREN WHO ARE NOW AT LEAST 16 YEARS OLD.
THIS AIRED ON KBTX AROUND JULY 4TH, 1997.
SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR RESIDENT ARCHIVIST AND SR. EDITOR STEVE CARMACK FOR SHARING MY PASSION FOR PRESERVING THE PAST. IT SHAPES OUR FUTURE AND IS THE REASON WE ARE HERE TODAY, JUST LIKE THE SOLDIERS AND ALL WHO SERVE OUR COUNTRY.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
BE IN TOUCH ANYTIME, YOUR OPINION ALWAYS MATTERS TO THE FAMILY OF KBTX NEWS 3 - AND HAPPY 4TH OF JULY.
