For those who have downloaded the new KBTX app, we want to thank you. The interactive radar probably came in handy for a lot of folks with the recent rains. Some folks still have some suggestions on making it better, though. Our General Manager, Mike Wright, runs through those and more in this edition of the Wright Response.

KBTX General Manager, Mike Wright

We're in the middle of fall football season and this year, KBTX and CW-8 launched a new broadcast called Big Game Friday Night. We have a production crew and play by play people go to a selected game of the week throughout the Brazos Valley. This airs three times over the weekend, Saturday afternoon on CW-8, Saturday evening following News 3 at 10, and again Sunday evening on CW-8 after the Aggie Football Show.

J-B thinks that is too much:

"Ok, I enjoy football, but not if I have to see the same game multiple times. This Friday Night High School game being broadcast several times a week is ridiculous. And seeing twice today was the final straw. I will no longer watch your station on the weekends, if at all. Seriously who really wants to see the same game over and over. Get a clue, before viewer numbers start dropping."

J-B, since you saw it twice, that means you watched it on CW Saturday afternoon and again on KBTX that evening. I agree - that would be too much, but you do have options for other programming from the KBTX Family. We carry the game on KBTX because CW-8 is not yet on Dish and Direct, and a very large number from outlying areas subscribe to satellite, many times because cable is not available. We want to ensure the communities that are home to teams we carry can see the broadcast. Big Game Friday Night following News 3 at 10 makes sure everyone in the 18-county area we cover can see the game and the halftime show of both bands. It may not be the answer you wanted to hear, but that's why we carry it three times over the weekend…some because of counter-programming, and some because we want to ensure the largest available audience can see it. I understand what you are saying, however, and appreciate the note.

The change with the KBTX app continues to be a work in progress, adjustments along the way. We thank you for the overall positive feedback on the re-design and we're listening to all comments. Personally, we too have some issues our programmers are working through.

The iPhone app needs to have a minor change made to make it more user friendly. The back button from a story should return you to the same spot in the list of news stories. Currently it returns you to the top of the page and the user has to scroll back down to continue viewing additional stories.

Because of this note, the issue was addressed and corrected. We thank Josh for being in touch.

"When will the images be updated for the kbtx ap under weather (sub category images)? It seems to be stuck on last week's seven day forecast. Also can the ag weather forecast image be placed under here as well, especially the sunrise and sunset times? Thanks and keep up the great work y'all do at kbtx!"

This input was very valuable, and this too was addressed. If you have suggestions, please let us know.

A-F sent along this e-mail:

"Mike, I wanted to bring something to your attention. I really like watching your station. One of the reasons why is because of the way you present the news. I moved up here from Houston after being there for 29 years. If you watch any news station down there now, they all do the same thing. They dramatize it by showing a field reporter demonstrating what happened at a break in. Ex: Grabbing the fence and shaking it. Please don't ever do that. It's demeaning to the people watching the news. Y'all have not done this type of reporting and I very much appreciate it. Thanks for not insulting our intelligence."

Honestly, A-F, we are - just laying it out there - just one report away from doing that at any given moment, but we will use this e-mail to share your feelings with the staff. Much appreciated.

Thank you again for the hundreds who send in pictures and alert us of events and situation you believe we should cover. Please be in touch anytime. Your opinion always matters to the family of KBTX News 3.
