Department is Helping Environment by Going “Tape-less”

The City of Bryan’s Communications Department has joined the City’s green initiative by eliminating its use of video tapes. Prior to this switch the Department used an estimated 300 tapes each year for City Council workshop and regular meetings, television programming and video PSA production.

The Department recently has invested in additional video cameras that record onto reusable media. The City’s cable television channel (Suddenlink 16) was overhauled. Instead of being played off of tapes, the channel’s programs are now digitally uploaded to a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) system.

Over time the City also will realize monetary savings from the Green initiative. Eventually the money saved from not purchasing 300 video tapes a year will offset the cost of the new cameras and the DVR system.

The City of Bryan is committed to continuously developing practices which strive to improve living and working environments while building a community that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable, and the Communications Department is just the latest example of that commitment.
