Green Week on BVTM: Trash Disposal and Recycling

Posted: Tue 7:56 AM, Jul 20, 2010

All this week, Brazos Valley This Morning is giving you tips on how you can get green, and maybe save some as well.

Tuesday, the focus was on disposing of and reducing your garbage.

Shelia McQueen with the Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency and Heather Qualls with College Station Recycling had tips on getting rid of your waste in the most efficient and environmentally-friendly ways.

When it comes to toxic materials, medicines and electronics, putting those in the garbage isn't the best option. Instead, its recommended that you store them in a safe place until one of the area's Household Hazardous Waste Collection events. The next one is in October.

Also, according to Qualls, 80 percent of garbage can be composted or recycled, so reducing the amount of trash can help matters as well.

Watch the video from Tuesday morning's interview for more information. You can also visit the Green page here at KBTX.com and click on the "Recycling" and "Green Living" tabs for a lot more tips.

You can also visit the City of Bryan's and the City of College Station's green pages to learn how you can go green in the Twin Cities.

Wednesday, Brazos Valley This Morning will focus on water conservation.
