An ex-Naval facility in Texas is turning more from the sea to the wind.
Texas State Technical College Harlingen has announced plans for a wind energy technology program at the former Naval Station Ingleside near Corpus Christi. Classes begin in the fall.
TSTC, in a statement Monday, said renewable energy resources will be the focus for the technical degree. Courses will include electronics, computers, pneumatics, hydraulics and motor controls.
The wind technology program is available as part of a five-year lease agreement between the school and the Port of Corpus Christi.
School officials say $1.9 million in state grant money will be used to purchase training equipment.
A federal grant to TSTC West Texas established the Harlingen program that opened to students last summer.
