In a St. Joseph Healthscene report, researchers say the difference between the top-ranked and the lowest hospitals is far too large. An annual study focused on 17 procedures has found an almost 70% lower chance of dying in what it called a "5-star" hospital then in some of the lowest-ranked ones. The survey examined 41 million patient records at the nation's 5,000 hospitals over 3 years.
