In a St. Joseph Healthscene report, doctors are often skipping a key test before major surgery. Researchers say Medicare patients who get operations to open blocked arteries often don't get the recommended stress tests to confirm the procedure is necessary. Some previous studies have suggested that many patients with chest pain can get about the same level of relief with standard drug therapy, but at a far lower cost.
