In a St. Joseph Healthscene report, smokers seeking medical help to kick the habit are more highly addicted than smokers 2 decades ago. 73% of those trying to quit a couple years ago were deemed "highly nicotine dependent" compared to just over half from 1990. The findings suggest nicotine dependence is worsening among smokers, although researchers don't know why.
