In a St. Joseph Health Scene report, for the first time, scientists have decoded the complete DNA of a cancer patient, tracing the disease to its genetic roots. They found 8 new genetic mutations associated with the disease, but experts say the more important discovery is the approach itself. A deeper understanding of cancer, now possible with cheaper and faster DNA technology, may lead to more effective ways to diagnose the disease and better ways to treat it.
