In a St. Joseph's Health Scene report, giving people antibiotics before they're admitted to the ICU saves lives. A survey of 6,000 patients found preventive use of the drugs reduced deaths by 3 to 5%. The findings suggest the use of antibiotics beforehand outweighs the risks of possible antibiotic resistance.
