A&M Brings Awareness To Eating Disorders

In the United States, as many as 10 million females and 1 million males are fighting a life and death battle with an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia, according to the National Eating Disorders Association.

Texas A&M University is bringing awareness to the disorder and body image this week.

Eating Disorders Awareness Week is co-sponsored by Student Health Services and the Student Counseling Service.

The week will include an eating disorders discussion panel at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Room 281 of the Rec Center.

"Don't Fight Your Genes" is a jeans-donation event where Aggies will be encouraged to "Drop off old jeans and accept the body you have!" on Wednesday in Koldus and Friday in Wehner.

The health educators at Beutel Health Center will be available all week to answer questions about eating disorders. Questions may be e-mailed to helathed@shs.tamu.edu.
