Updated: Tue 8:58 AM, Mar 22, 2011

KBTX Medical Contributor Dr. Alan Xenakis from the Texas A&M Health Science Center made his regular visit to Brazos Valley This Morning Tuesday to talk about the weight issue facing many people, not only in Texas, but also throughout the country.

Video from that segment is included with this story.

In addition, "Obesity & Nutrition: Is Obesity an Epidemic?" will be held Thursday at the Bush Library starting at 7 p.m. "Doc X" will be moderating a discussion on obesity. On the panel:

- David Parrent, M.D., Bariatric Surgeon, Brazos Valley Bariatrics
- Thomas Wagner, M.D., Scott & White Family Practice, Nutrimed Weight Loss Clinic
- Kristin Shaffer, R.D., M.S., L.D., Dietician, St. Joseph Regional Health Center

Information on the obesity problem facing many, the health risks associated with it and possible solutions will be discussed.

While the event is free, the seating is limited. To get in on the event, call Tracy Paine at (979) 691-4014 or e-mail reservations.bush@nara.gov.
