Hospital Administrator Retires After Quarter Of A Century Of Dedication

Sister Gretchen Kunz is retiring. Sister Gretchen served as St. Joseph's CEO for 24 years and a senior development officer for five years. Her inspirational leadership has helped this healing ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis grow from a small community hospital into a regional health system serving 13 counties and some 300,000 Brazos Valley residents. Her vision has brought major regional medical services to the community including heart, cancer, rehabilitation, surgical services, maternal/child care and emergency services.

During the 80s and 90s, Sister Gretchen led many growth initiatives and projects, culminating with the dedication and opening of the patient tower in 2004. During the mid '90s St. Joseph Health System continued to grow to meet the community needs of the rural counties in the Brazos Valley and to expand into managed care, long-term care, development and properties management.
