The AMA Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA) and the related credit system recognize physicians who demonstrate their commitment to staying current with advances in medicine by participating in certified continuing medical education (CME) activities. Established in 1968, the AMA PRA today stands as the most widely accepted award for recognizing physician CME achievement.

In January 2011, Dr. Mitter became the only local physician recertified in oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).

“Ever since my grandmother died of pancreatic cancer, I’ve devoted my career to fighting this dreadful disease,” said Dr. Mitter. “This honor reaffirms my life’s work to help cancer victims become cancer survivors.

At only 48 years old, Dr. Mitter has already spent close to 30 years in the medical profession as he entered medical school at the early age of 17. Despite that, he managed to graduate fifth in medicine in his class when he was only 21.

In 2000, Dr. Mitter established his oncology practice in College Station where he continues to use his experience and knowledge of the disease to help those battling cancer.
