COLLEGE STATION In just a little more than two months, another major hospital is set to open in the Twin Cities.
The new Scott and White facility at the corner of Highway 6 and Rock Prairie is due to begin offering services in early August.
With the big construction out of the way, equipment and furniture is being moved in, and hiring is well underway. Scott and White-College Station CEO Jason Jennings say they'll add 35 to 50 doctors for the opening, and after three months, they hope to have 300 staff members.
"Scott & White has a long legacy of being in the Brazos Valley, and this really completes the continuum of care of our integrated medical model," Jennings said. "We look forward to not only Scott & White physicians, but other physicians servicing the Brazos Valley for years to come."
A job fair is set for June 17 at the hospital, and a community event for the public to see the facility will happen July 20.
The quickly approaching opening of the new Scott & White comes as St. Joseph Hospital announced its Level 2 trauma center designation Thursday, meaning it is equipped to handle more serious medical incidents.
According to Jennings, Scott & White will aim for a Level 3 designation upon its opening, and will decide from there whether to attempt to achieve a higher status.
