While many were busy sharing their thoughts online about the Government shut-down this week, there was a different kind of shut down in the cyber-world. The website launched Tuesday for the Affordable Healthcare package, HealthCare.gov found itself in a glitch this week.
According to Tim Ottinger, St. Joseph's Community Relations Specialist, so far, there has been no record of anyone in the Brazos Valley who has signed up for the Affordable Care Health Coverage, commonly referred to as "Obama Care."
Eric Todd with the Brazos Community Action Agency believes the interruption of computer service is the source behind the lack of enrollments.
"I think it's still so new that we don't know the outcome, we don't know how many people will sign it," said Ottinger.
Ottinger said it will be interesting to see how Texans do respond to the healthcare option, since a whopping 25 percent are uninsured.
"There's a variety of reasons for that; there are a lot of businesses, for small businesses it's more of a challenge to pay the cost of those premiums," said Ottinger.
Officials expect the website to be up and running by Monday. If you are interested in seeking coverage by January 1, 2014, you have until December 15, 2013 to enroll. If you miss the cut off, enrollment applications will be accepted through March 2014.
