For more than a decade, an event to inspire and to raise money in the fight against breast cancer has been a big draw for hundreds.
St. Joseph Regional Health Center and its partners played host to the 11th annual Surviving and Thriving luncheon at the College Station Hilton. Monday's fundraiser will add to a quarter-of-a-million-dollars raised in the first decade of the event.
The featured speaker was Geralyn Lucas, who wrote the popular book "Why I Wore Lipstick to my Mastectomy" about her journey after being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 27. The book was later made into an Emmy-nominated television movie.
Lucas travels across the country to try and inspiring people affected by a disease that touches one in eight women.
