Some very young community watch dogs were out making a different in Bryan Saturday afternoon.

These young faces are part of an organization called "UP BEAT"

They were out scoping areas that could use improvement near the Neal Recreation Center in Bryan.

Members tell us it allows the youth to become active in the community while learning about what can be improved to make the Twin Cities a more "fit" place to live.

"We're just trying to make the community better, you know, make it more active, " Project Director Julie Ribardo said, "We have twelve youth our surveying the community looking at whether there are sidewalks present, looking at how well the lighting is, speed limits, beauty of the neighborhood because obviously if your environment doesn't encourage physical activity then then individuals won't be out getting active and our whole purpose is to prevent and or reduce obesity."

Following the community assessment was a free health fair inside the Neil Rec Center.

Next Saturday the organization will hold another community assessment and free health fair at the Lincoln Recreation Center in College Station.
