In today’s Brazos Valley Physician’s Organization Journal of Medicine Report, Dr. Russell Bacak discusses obesity.
Obesity is probably one of the most common medical problems that we face in America. Almost 30-40% of the population is officially obese by our standards and another large portion is definitely overweight. It leads to numerous medical problems including hypertension, cancer risk, diabetes, chronic fatigue, joint pain are only some of the things obesity impacts.
Bottom line, we eat too much in our society and take in too many calories. But that’s only probably 20% of the equation. 80% of the equation is just complete lack of activity. We live a sedentary lifestyle where we just don’t get up and exercise. I think we’re starting to realize that as a society more, and as far as increasing daily activity, daily exercise is just a part of it. Diet alone will probably not work in terms of long term weight loss.
The Brazos Valley Physician’s Organization is a group of independent physicians who are determined to preserve the choice and the sanctity of the Patient-Physician relationship. Our vision is that the patient always comes first.
