Sometimes Doctors want to try a different approach where the patient is more actively engaged, and that is where physical therapy comes in.
Let’s say somebody is referred in with a headache, muscle tension, and pain issues, we would do an initial evaluation, find out where the deficits lie, whether it’s restrictive motion, or tight muscles.
Then we would address those by using different treatment techniques. Those might be using electric muscle stimulation, along with moist heat, and then again we might do some stretching of tissue, some massage, and then give them stretching exercises which they take home with them and use to decrease the symptoms and keep things at bay. We give them tools to use on their own so that they can effectively manage their own condition.
